Women’s Heart Support Network Goes Virtual Amidst COVID-19 Pandemic –


NEWNAN, Georgia– Piedmont Hospital’s Women’s Heart Support Center brings its programs online to continue helping women improve their cardiac health through physical fitness and other helpful programs that will boost their health.

The Women’s Heart Support Center started at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, which eventually expanded to Fayette due to some donations from Fayetteville residents and a Piedmont Foundation Board Member. Avril James was hired as the program coordinator for Fayette and Newnan. The program is now being offered at 11 Piedmont hospitals.

Many of their programs are now being launched and offered online, as the COVID-19 pandemic keeps people in their homes. There will be an increased risk of heart disease with people reducing their mobility as they are stuck inside their homes.

A lot of women have found their program as a lifeline. One of the participants that shared her story was Sha Gadson. She started 2020, intending to have a healthier lifestyle. When COVID-19 started, she tried to find new ways to keep up with her goal. She learned about Women’s Heart Support Center through her women’s group in a church.

Gadson started with a Yoga Program that offers meditation, decluttering and cooking classes. She lost 65lbs since February and now claims to feel healthier and more energetic than before. She tried the 21-Day Vegan Challenge next and lost nine pounds doing the challenge. The recipe and cooking tips in the program helped her and her husband to eat healthier.

Going virtual has made its participants expand. Their programs help women of all ages decompress and have a community to engage with other women amidst the pandemic. The programs are designed to help women have a healthy lifestyle while reducing the isolation that many women feel when stuck in their homes.

They have many upcoming events and programs that women can consider if they are interested in Women’s Heart Support Center programs. Their upcoming schedule is as follows.

Saturday, November 7, 2020, at 11 AM. Balms, Butters, and Potions features aromatherapist Carolyn Folk will discuss skincare using aromatherapy and other ingredients that can be used for women’s skin health. She will also show some tips on making DIY cream, salve, and lip balm in your homes.

Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at noon. The Centered Woman Series led by Alexander technique teacher Morgan Rysdon aims to help you discover the immense influence of the thinking mind on the body. Some habits will be shared to shift your body to a more relaxed state.

Saturday, November 14, 2020, at 10 AM. Awakened Heart Fall Retreat is facilitated by Mindy Stritch, an expert at energy healing. She will discuss the intricate energies of the heart with a focus on the body and heart.

Monday, November 19, 2020, at 7 PM. A Plant-Based Thanksgiving is hosted by Chef Gail Downing, an online cooking demonstration with heart-healthy dishes that you can share with your family, especially on the upcoming holidays.

Aside from these upcoming special events, Women’s Heart Support Center offers its weekly programs, which you can join upon registration online. These programs include physical fitness programs, breathing, yoga, and walking plus talking.
